Letter from Danielle Belton of New Security Action

Dear Karen:

In many ways we're the new kid on the block. But in just two short months, you've worked side-by-side with us to win key battles in our fight to close the prison at Guantanamo Bay.

But our work isn't done, and we need your help to remove this stain on our nation now more than ever. That's why we are asking for a year-end donation to help the Campaign to Close Gitmo Now.

Make a donation now of $35 or more and help us win our campaign to Close Gitmo in 2010.

Here's what we've done so far with your help:

Beaten back destructive amendments by Republican Senators Lindsay Graham and James Inhofe designed to stop the closing of Gitmo;
Defended Attorney General Eric Holder for courageously bringing the 9/11 suspects, including Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, to trial in New York;
Built a coalition of musicians including REM, Pearl Jam, Rosanne Cash, Nine Inch Nails, Tom Morello and the Indigo Girls to stand against torture and join our campaign;
Fought conservative fearmongering from Congressional representatives like Illinois' Mark Kirk, who'd rather play politics with our security than see justice done.
We are winning this fight, but we can't stop now, because our opponents are determined to keep Guantanamo open and ignore its legacy of torture and indefinite detention. More amendments and bills are coming down the pike in Congress to stall, deny and delay detainees from ever coming to the U.S. for trial, and conservative fearmongering will go into overdrive during next year's election.

Will you help us continue the fight in Congress? Please make a contribution today and help Close Gitmo Now.

We'll be returning in January with renewed energy to pursue the goal we all share.

Happy holidays!

Danielle, Tom and Ryan and the New Security Action team
